Individual disability policy advantages over employer group disability

  • Tax-free benefit

    Your individual disability policy benefit is received tax-free if you were to ever go on claim. The policy from your employer is taxed, which can leave you significantly short of covering your pre-disability income.

  • Portable

    You own the individual policy and can take it with you if you leave your job. Your employer policy can not go with you if you change employers. This could leave you unable to get coverage altogether if your health situation changes

  • You have control

    You have control of the amount of coverage and additional riders on your individual policy. Your employer group policy can be changed or cancelled anytime leaving your with inadequate income protection.
